The Modern Art Eclipse Lamp
This is the multifaceted lamp with a ribbon-like shade that changes shape to diffuse the light in different directions. Based on a piece in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, it is designed by Brazilian artist and engineer Mauricio Klabin. The otherworldly lamp rests on slim steel legs shaped like planetary rings that can be balanced in a variety of positions. This allows the plastic shade to be shifted into a range of shapes to obscure the bulb or to cast the bright light at different angles. The legs can also be removed to convert the table lamp into a pendant fixture. Requires 60-watt bulb.
