A multirole combat aircraft, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was introduced in the U.S. Navy in 1974. It was the first of the teen-fighter series, developed using expertise gained from dogfights with Soviet MiGs during the Vietnam War.
Though it remains in service in Iran, it was retired from active U.S. duty in 2006, replaced by the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The “A” variant was flown by the Navy and remains in service in Iran.
