The Genuine Irish Telefon Box

The first telefon box was installed opposite Trinity College in 1925. Soon thereafter they could be found most everywhere in the country, from bustling Dublin streets to remote coastal villages. However, with the advent of mobile phones, telefon boxes fell into disrepair and were dismantled by the thousands; today only a handful of working models remain.

This hand-carved reproduction hearkens back to those days when the telefon box brought news of births, marriages, and deaths and played a central role in the lives of the lovesick and homesick. Made by bespoke master wood crafters in the heart of Dublin, it possesses all the charm of the original: a crown molded roof, 18-pane windows and cast acrylic “telefon” signs, and the classic cream and emerald green exterior. While lacking a phone itself, this telefon box still facilitates communication by creating a private sanctuary for mobile phone calls, or simply serving as a historic conversation piece.
