The 3D Scanner
This is the device that scans three-dimensional objects to create digital models or print on a 3D printer. The handheld scanner has two cameras—one that captures the size and shape and one that scans the color of any physical object as small as 8 cubic inches and as large as 10 cubic feet. The scanner can be held 5″ to 60″ away as it is moved around an object and uses automatic object recognition to ensure backgrounds are not captured as you create a 3D scan.
The scanner transfers 240 x 320 pixel color images via the included USB cable to a computer running Windows 7 or 8 and the included software enables cropping and enhancing of scans. Three-dimensional scans of a pet, spouse, or any subject can be downloaded to a 3D-compatible printer (available from Hammacher.com) that produces exact, 3D models of a spouse or pet scaled to 5 1/2 cubic inches.
