Glowing ice cubes operate on the same principals as the common glow stick. They have a thin layer of glass inside that separates 2 chemicals, 1 mixed with a fluorescent dye. When the cubes are activated the chemicals inside mix together.
Once these substances contact each other, a reaction starts taking place. The reaction releases light, causing the cube to glow! . When used as recommended, glowing ice cubes have 6+ hours of useful glow. Visible glow up to 24 hours. Glowing ice cubes are approximately 1 inch square and have a smooth surface. The outer shell is a soft white color.
